On November 20, 2025, City Journal published an article by Ryan Thorpe and Christopher Rufo titled “The Largest Funder of Al-Shabaab Is the Minnesota Taxpayer.”

By the evening of November 21, 2025 – less than 48 hours later – President-elect Donald Trump posted this on Truth Social:

  2. The terrorism angle, even anonymously sourced, fit a suspicion law enforcement has whispered about since 2018.
  3. Perfect villain lineup for MAGA 2025: Walz, Omar, Somali gangs, taxpayer theft, Islamic terrorism financing.
  4. No legacy media cover = zero friction.
  5. Trump’s team had this round chambered – the article was just the green light.
