The Lie Needs a Voice
Two rooms. One mouth. No self.
A cipher is a person through whom someone else’s text is read. The room writes. He pronounces.
N.B. March 4: Why Talarico Won’t Win Texas. September 15: Losin’ Texas. September 29: Deductible Jesus. Same file. Last week was the theology. This week is the man who needs two scripts.
You have now seen the same man occupy two rooms and deny that the door exists.
On September 9, Brooke Taylor put the question to him in English Texas still speaks. He said he would oppose men in girls’ sports if safety and fairness are at risk. He said there are two sexes. He said some of the old lines “missed the mark.” Just days later a hidden camera at a Houston church caught the other room. A woman told him she had a trans niece and asked if she could count on him. “Always.” The way he fought for trans kids in the legislature is how he will fight for them in the Senate. His position has not changed. He has the most inclusive policy of anyone running.
🚨WATCH
James Talarico — who fought to allow the gender mutilation of children and to let men compete in girls' sports — says his far-Left agenda hasn't changed.

Things are getting clipped. At the Texas Tribune Festival he said the 2021 vote against the statewide sports ban was “exactly the same.”
Rev. Babs Miller, in the church that raised him, already told an undercover camera he would change his tune back after he won. He did not wait for January. He is changing it by the hour.
I am not going to argue polls with you. I set an over/under of 9 on James Talarico months ago and I have held it through a summer of black-pill panic. I want to put a name on what you are looking at. The West already wrote the name. He is a cipher. A cipher is a person through whom someone else’s text is read. The room writes. He pronounces. That is the ultimate cipher.
Look at the costume first. Then take the words off.
Eighth-generation Texan. Presbyterian seminarian. Biblical grounds. Working people. Those are exalting words. Marcus Aurelius told himself to strip them. What is this in itself, in its substance, in its nudity? Give the thing its proper name. A purple robe is sheep’s wool dyed with the blood of a shellfish. After the dye comes off, what remains is a candidate who cannot tell Brooke Taylor and the niece story the same sentence unless one of them is a performance. That is the thing itself. You do not need the Meditations on the nightstand. You need the habit. Stop arguing with the press release. Look at the man who requires two scripts.
The Bible saw the costume before Aurelius did.
I have already written the doctrine column. Deductible Jesus. Matthew 25 as “how we will be saved.” A public option baptized as the gospel. I will not preach that piece again. I will let the text name the category, then we will walk back to the candidate.
Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves. You will recognize them by their fruits.
Matthew 7:15-16 (ESV)
Not everyone who says to me, “Lord, Lord,” will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. On that day many will say to me, “Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?” And then will I declare to them, “I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.”
Matthew 7:21-23 (ESV)
Having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power. Avoid such people.
2 Timothy 3:5 (ESV)
He says Lord. He cites the healings. He puts Christ in a deductible joke and calls it biblical grounds. Paul already warned you about a gospel contrary to the one preached. The test was never whether a seminarian can quote a mercy. The test is whether the Christ in the ad is the Christ who speaks. That is not a healthcare disagreement. It is the type Jesus and Paul already told you to recognize by fruit.
Watch what he does with bread.
On September 27 he posted the short hymn. When Jesus healed the sick, He didn’t ask for a deductible. When He fed the hungry, He didn’t price-gouge. The prophets spoke truth to power. When I take on this corrupt system, I am doing it on biblical grounds. That is a campaign slogan wearing vestments.
In the wilderness the devil offered Jesus stones turned to bread. He refused. Man shall not live by bread alone. After He fed the five thousand, the crowd followed for another meal. He rebuked them. They wanted loaves. He offered Himself.
Dostoevsky put the other side of that argument in a prison of the mind called the Grand Inquisitor. The old man tells Christ He was wrong. Command the stones. The herd will run after You, grateful and afraid. Feed them first, then command them. Miracle, mystery, authority. We corrected Your deed. Freedom was too hard. Give them bread and call it love.
You have watched a Texas Senate candidate baptize a federal benefits program with Matthew 25. Healthcare is a human right. Jesus didn’t itemize. That is the Inquisitor’s first temptation accepted and filed in Travis County. The gospel becomes a loaf. The state becomes the hand that breaks it. The crowd that wanted bread is the coalition. You do not need The Brothers Karamazov on the nightstand either. You have the ad.
Now look at why he does not blush.
Missed the mark. Always. Exactly the same. A man with a self would have to pick. A man with an ideology does not pick. He justifies.
Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn spent a life explaining the nature of the Communist lie. I am not calling Talarico a commissar. I am telling you the family resemblance. To do evil a human being must first believe he is doing good, or that the act accords with natural law. Macbeth still had a conscience and it ate him. Shakespeare’s Iago was a lamb. The villains stopped at a dozen corpses because they had no ideology. Ideology is the social theory that makes the act look good in his eyes and in the eyes of the people who will praise him. He will not hear curses. He will receive honors.
That is the two rooms. The Fox News interview is the conscience of a state that still thinks there are girls’ sports and two sexes. The rope line is the honors. The theory that blesses both is the same theory that told a church hall that works save you and a podcast that he is a Christian who hates Christianity. The nature of that political family is to lie. Not as a mood. As the machine. Solzhenitsyn’s refusal was simple. Let the lie come into the world, even dominate the world, but not through me. The cipher’s vocation is the opposite. The lie must come through him or a room goes dark.
Edmund Burke saw the other half of the trick.
What is the use, he asked, of discussing a man’s abstract right to food or medicine? The question is the method of procuring and administering them. Call the farmer and the physician, not the professor of metaphysics. The pretended rights of the theorists are extremes. In proportion as they are metaphysically true, they are morally and politically false.
Healthcare is a right. Jesus didn’t ask for a deductible. That is the professor. Girls in the locker room, children under the knife, premiums, doctors, the actual hospital in your county: that is method. Texas has to live with method. Manhattan buys the right. When he tells Fox he cares about safety and fairness and tells the hidden mic his position has not changed, he is keeping the professor and the physician in separate buildings. Burke told you which building runs a state. The other one runs a salon.
He was discipled into this. It is not a phase.
St. Andrew’s Presbyterian in Austin raised him. Jim Rigby baptized him and married his parents. Talarico has said the man has been his pastor since he was two. That pulpit treated Lord and King as words that would make God male. Talarico preached in that room that God is a verb, not a being, and that the trans community needs abortion care too. The church calls itself values-based. A minister there said they do not spend time on creeds. Miller rejected a literal resurrection and said he would change his tune back. In 2021, on a podcast with a trans-identifying activist theologian, Talarico called himself a Christian who hates Christianity, praised the barefoot Rabbi as more radical than any political philosophy, and named Him a socialist anarchist from ancient Palestine.
Andrew Breitbart’s maxim is still the plumbing. Politics is downstream from culture. This culture produced a man who keeps the name and empties the object. The Senate race is runoff. Deductible Jesus did not fall out of a consultant’s deck. It was formed.
Follow the rooms that pay for a cipher.
He opened September in Hollywood with Shonda Rhimes and Jon Ossoff. “Two Visionaries, One Night.” Tickets to twenty-seven thousand dollars. He closed it in Manhattan. Robert De Niro introducing. Sherrod Brown on the ticket. Same champion price. Host names that run through the Mamdani world. Working people live in the biography. The transfer lives on the calendar. An eighth-generation Texan who must leave Texas to keep the lights on is telling you which electorate he serves. The coasts do not need him to be authentic. They need him to be permeable. A cipher is a good investment. You can write new text tomorrow.
This is why the number never moved.
The summer was a panic about airtime and first-look polls and a burn rate that looked like momentum. I watched the man instead. Nothing about him improved. The girlfriend week. The meat reveal. The church. The deductible. The two rooms. Money can buy a new script. Money can buy Grey’s Anatomy and De Niro and a softening for Fox. He cannot buy a self.
A self would have to choose a room and lose the other. A cipher keeps both and calls it nuance. That is a ceiling, not a surge. Texans are not doing a doctorate in Russian novels. They are doing what Aurelius said. They are looking at the thing. Once the costume is seen as a costume, more money does not put it back on. He’s losin’ Texas. I can tell.
The West did not leave you unarmed. The wolf in wool. The thing itself. The loaf that replaces the Bread of Life. The lie that needs a mouth. The right that will not call a doctor. You do not have to become a theologian. You have to refuse to hire a man whose job is to say what he does not think in whichever dialect the hour requires.
Ken Paxton’s contrast is rude in its simplicity. He is the same man in every room. You may hate that man. You know which man he is. The ultimate cipher is useful to everyone except the people who have to live under the statute.
Look at the thing itself. Then vote like you saw it.
UPDATE:
The party of Piker.
Hasan Piker says he'll make sure James Talarico follows his far-Left agenda if he becomes a Senator:
"After James Talarico wins…we have to remind him that…we are the force that allowed him to win this seat of power, and if he wants to maintain it he’s got to play ball.” pic.twitter.com/NjZu6n8LJ5
