This is Twenty

Twenty Years Strong – Like a Rock

Twenty years now.
Where’d they go?
Twenty years.
I don’t know.
I sit and wonder sometimes
Where they’ve gone.

Bob Seger nailed it with those lines-time slips away faster than you can track it. But on this, our 20th anniversary, those words don’t just echo lost youth. They point to something built, something that lasts.

Think about a rock. A real one. It doesn’t just sit pretty. It endures. Storms hammer it, winds howl, rains soak through every crack. Freezing cold tries to split it wide open. Blazing sun bakes it day after relentless day. Dry spells test its core. It might get caught in a landslide, tumbled and thrown, buried under tons of debris. Smaller rocks get hurled like gravel. But the solid ones? They stand. Weathered, sure. Scarred, absolutely. But stronger, shaped by every blow into something unbreakable.

That’s us. That’s our marriage.

We’ve faced the tempests-those unexpected gales that hit out of nowhere. Frigid seasons when doubt crept in like winter frost. Floods of sorrow that threatened to wash everything away. Dry stretches where routine wore us down. Trials that burned hot and tested everything we thought we knew. We’ve been shaken, tossed around by forces bigger than us. Yet here we are. Standing arrow-straight. Carrying the weight. Hard against the wind, sun on our backs.

Time’s built its edifice on us, layer upon layer. Twenty years of laughter carving deep grooves. Tears polishing the rough edges smooth. Joys stacking up like bedrock. It’s not some fragile tower-it’s solid granite. A foundation that doesn’t shift.

And I can’t help thinking of Christ renaming Simon: “You are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it.” He called him the Rock-Cephas, Petrus-for a reason. Something enduring to build on. We’ve done that here, in our own quiet way. A union rooted in faith, forged in commitment, standing firm against whatever hell throws at it.

The years flew by, no question. But they didn’t vanish. They’re etched into us, making us who we are-stronger together.

I love you more today than ever. Happy 20th, my Rockin’ Robin.
